Little Moses Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus 'Odom') is a highly compact, true dwarf deciduous shrub known for its fiery crimson-red foliage each autumn. It is one of the smallest burning bush cultivars available, making it a smart choice for tight garden spaces, low hedges, foundation plantings, or patio containers where standard varieties would quickly outgrow their space. That small footprint means you get the classic burning bush color show without giving up a large section of your yard.
Enjoy a Full Season of ColorLittle Moses leafs out each spring in dark green or bluish-green foliage that holds its color through summer. Then autumn arrives and the leaves shift to a brilliant, long-lasting crimson red that stays vivid longer than many other varieties. Even after the leaves drop, the stems offer subtle winter interest with their light, corky ridges, keeping the shrub worth looking at in every season.
Fit More Color Into Less SpaceThis shrub grows at a slow to moderate pace, reaching a manageable 2 to 3.5 feet tall and equally wide at maturity. Its naturally neat, dense, upright mounded form fills out all the way to the ground, so you get a tidy, full look without the size of a standard burning bush. That predictable, contained growth makes it easy to plan around from the day you plant it.
Count on Serious Cold HardinessLittle Moses is exceptionally cold-hardy, thriving in USDA Zones 4 through 8 and surviving winter temperatures down to negative 30 degrees Fahrenheit without stem dieback. For the most vibrant, intense fall color, plant it somewhere that gets at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight each day.
Spend Less Time on MaintenanceThis shrub adapts easily to most soil types and pH levels as long as the ground drains well, and it tolerates heavy urban pollution without trouble. Pruning is rarely necessary thanks to its small size, though light shaping in late winter is an option if you want it. Keep an eye out for spider mites during hot, dry summer stretches, and avoid areas prone to standing water, which can lead to twig blight.
