Savannah Sunset™ Ninebark gives gardeners months of changing color from one tough, easy-to-place shrub. Growing about 4–5' tall and 3–4' wide, this compact Physocarpus opulifolius selection brings native shrub durability to foundations, sunny borders and mixed plantings.

Enjoy Color That Keeps Changing

The foliage is the main reason to plant Savannah Sunset™. New leaves emerge deep orange, then shift through bright orange, orange-gold and yellow-green before finishing in deep red to maroon tones in fall. That steady color change gives the garden a fresh look through the season without replanting or relying on short-lived flowers.

Add Structure Without Oversizing the Bed

Older ninebarks can grow too large or rangy for smaller home landscapes. Savannah Sunset™ stays in a more useful size range, with an upright-rounded shape that looks full without taking over. Use it as a single color anchor, repeat it in a low informal hedge or place it near evergreens and darker foliage for strong contrast.

Get Flowers Plus Native Shrub Value

In late spring to early summer, small white flower clusters brighten the warm foliage and bring a crisp seasonal accent. The flowers attract pollinating insects, then develop into small reddish seed capsules that add subtle texture without heavy litter. As the shrub matures, exfoliating bark adds another layer of interest in the colder months.

Plant for Low-Maintenance Performance

Savannah Sunset™ performs best in full sun, where the foliage develops its strongest orange-to-red color. Once established, it is drought tolerant and handles average to fertile, well-drained soils. Its cold hardiness, adaptability and compact non-suckering habit make it a practical choice for busy gardeners who want reliable color, native toughness and a tidy fit in the landscape.
