Violet Pinwheels Carpet Phlox brings bold violet blooms to the garden just when color is needed most. Starting in early to mid-April, this variety covers itself in vibrant, notched flowers for four to six weeks, well ahead of many other spring perennials. It stays low to the ground and spreads steadily, making it ideal for edging, rock gardens, and slopes. Easy to grow and resistant to deer, rabbits, and powdery mildew, it also tolerates road salt and high pH soil.
A welcome burst of early-season color
Violet Pinwheels begins flowering before most other plants are awake. Its vivid purple to violet blooms appear in early spring and continue through mid to late May. This reliable timing helps fill seasonal gaps with strong, consistent color.
Forms a colorful carpet in sunlit spaces
The low-growing habit of this phlox makes it well suited for sunny slopes, rock gardens, and the front of garden beds. It also performs well between stepping stones or spilling over retaining walls. Each bloom is just under an inch wide, creating dense color that draws attention without overpowering nearby plants.
Stands up to harsh conditions
This variety is well adapted to challenging sites. It tolerates high pH levels and deicing salts, making it a great choice for borders near sidewalks or driveways. Once established, it handles drought well and resists common problems like powdery mildew. Deer and rabbits typically leave it alone.
Light rebloom extends seasonal interest
While its spring show is the main event, Violet Pinwheels can also produce a light rebloom later in the season. This subtle second round adds bonus color from late summer into early fall, offering extended value with very little effort.
