  • Thousands of blooms on a mature plant
  • Flowers start raspberry red and mature to purple
Sweet Summer Love's small flowers start out rich, raspberry red and mature to purple—sometimes appearing as though two Clematis flowers have merged together! It has a long bloom period, so there's plenty of time to enjoy the show. When it blooms in midsummer, you'll love the hot weather for the way it brings out each flower's vanilla fragrance. The large vine is excellent for trellises or arches. Clematis viticella 'Sweet Summer Love'

In our EZ Pruning Guide, this variety is in the GREEN pruning category. These Clematis bloom on new vines that emerge from the ground each year or stems from near the bottom of older vines. Prune hard in the spring and as often as you like to encourage reblooming and keep the plant as tidy as you like.
