Honky Tonk Blues German Iris gives gardeners a proven way to add richly colored, award-winning blooms to sunny beds and borders. This tall bearded iris reaches about 37" in bloom, with ruffled hyacinth-blue flowers that bring strong late-spring color without demanding constant attention.
Deer and rabbit resistant
For gardeners who battle browsing in the landscape, this is one of the biggest reasons to plant Honky Tonk Blues. Deer and rabbits tend to avoid it, so you can use it in sunny borders, cottage gardens and iris plantings with more confidence. It is a practical choice when you want showy late-spring bloom in a garden where more tempting plants may get damaged.
Award-winning garden value
Honky Tonk Blues has earned major American Iris Society honors, including the American Dykes Medal. That recognition matters because it points to a cultivar with proven ornamental quality. The hyacinth-blue blooms have ruffled petals, white-grey detailing on the falls and a matching blue beard, giving the flowers a refined, finished look in the garden.
Strong performance in sunny spaces
This iris does best in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established, it has low to average water needs and is drought tolerant, which helps reduce extra watering in the right site. It also tolerates neutral to alkaline soil and has noted salt tolerance, making it useful for sunny areas that can be difficult for some perennials.
Easy to use in classic borders
Plant Honky Tonk Blues where its late-spring color can be seen clearly—along walkways, in mixed perennial beds or grouped with other bearded irises. After bloom, the upright foliage continues to mark its place neatly in the garden until the season moves on.
