Forest Flame Pieris delivers year-round appeal with bold spring color, elegant flowers, and glossy evergreen foliage. In early spring, it produces cascading clusters of white, urn-shaped blooms that resemble lily of the valley. At the same time, vivid red new growth emerges at the tips of the branches, creating a fiery contrast against the mature dark green leaves. Over time, the red softens to pink and cream before it matures into its rich summer green. Ideal for foundation plantings or mixed borders, this compact shrub brings structure and seasonal highlights to shade or partial sun.
Eye-catching spring foliage
One of the most striking features of Forest Flame is its colorful new growth. The young leaves emerge a bold, flame-like red, then soften to shades of pink and cream before maturing into dark green. This leaf transition adds changing interest well beyond bloom time.
Graceful flowers with a soft presence
In early spring, the plant produces drooping clusters of small, white, bell-shaped flowers. These blooms add charm to shaded areas and attract early pollinators. Flower buds form the previous summer and remain visible through winter, adding texture and visual contrast during the colder months.
Low-maintenance evergreen structure
Forest Flame is slow-growing and compact, typically reaching 4 to 7 feet tall and wide. Its dense branching habit gives it a naturally tidy form that works well in formal or informal designs. The glossy evergreen leaves keep the garden looking full year-round, even when other plants are dormant.
A good fit for shade and mixed borders
This shrub thrives in part shade with well-drained, acidic soil. It’s a great option for adding color beneath high-canopy trees or softening the edge of a woodland border. With minimal pruning, it stays neat and continues to impress season after season.
