- Great performance in the garden and vase
If you're looking for a colorful Clematis, the flowers on PRINCE WILLIAM are ideally formed to show off a striking tricolor. They have that coveted tulip shape, but instead of nodding, they're mostly outward facing. That way, you can see all those colors--the deep violet sepals, the contrasting blonde center, the strong reddish reverse that pales dramatically at the edges. PRINCE WILLIAM is a modern hybrid, carefully bred for the best in looks and performance. That means reliable heat tolerance and cold hardiness. Pruning will be easy, and it grows fast to a nice, medium size. In the garden, you'll love this Clematis climbing a trellis, arch or pergola. Since it's an abundant flowering type, you'll have no reservations on snagging a few blooms for cut flower bouquets. It's long lasting and a great shape for a vase. Clematis texensis 'ZO8171'
In our EZ Pruning Guide, this variety is in the GREEN pruning category. These Clematis bloom on new vines that emerge from the ground each year or stems from near the bottom of older vines. Prune hard in the spring and as often as you like to encourage reblooming and keep the plant as tidy as you like.
