Built for structure, not mess: Some bee balms lean, sprawl, or just look wild by July. Claire Grace doesn’t do that. It grows up, not out. The stems are strong and straight, holding the flowers up where they belong—above the foliage, not buried in it. That habit makes it easier to fit into beds with other perennials, especially where space is tight. You won’t need to stake it, and you won’t find yourself trimming it back just to keep it standing. The shape holds. It looks clean, even when it's in full bloom.
Fights mildew so you don’t have to: Many Monardas develop powdery mildew partway through the season. You see gray patches on the leaves, the plant thins out, and it starts to look like it’s fading. Claire Grace was bred to hold up better. The foliage stays green and glossy—even when summer gets humid. That means you’re not trimming it back early, or dealing with half-bare stems while it’s still flowering. It holds up longer and stays presentable. If your garden’s seen mildew on bee balm before, this variety’s an easy upgrade.
Native roots, easy care: Claire Grace is a selection of a North American native. It handles full sun and average garden soil just fine. Once it’s established, it doesn’t need special care. Water it during dry spells. That’s about it. Every few years, you can divide it if you want more, but there’s no rush. It fits into native plantings or traditional borders, and it won’t outgrow its space. Plant it once, give it room, and you’ll get reliable summer bloom without the usual cleanup.
