Blue Muffin® Viburnum gives gardeners the beauty and toughness of native arrowwood viburnum in a more manageable size. Growing about 5–7' tall and wide, this compact shrub fits residential borders, informal hedges, foundations and wildlife plantings without the larger scale of the straight species.

Create a fuller screen without fussy care

Blue Muffin® grows into a dense, upright-rounded shrub with a solid leafy presence. That makes it useful for soft screening, property edges or a mixed shrub border where you want structure that still feels natural. Its clean shape can be left informal, with occasional renewal pruning to keep growth fresh and balanced.

Bring birds in with blue fruit

In early to midsummer, creamy white flower clusters cover the outer canopy. With a compatible arrowwood viburnum nearby for cross-pollination, those flowers develop into vivid blue fruit clusters in late summer and fall. The berries add a distinctive ornamental look and provide food for songbirds as the season advances.

Add more than one season of interest

Glossy, dark green leaves create a strong backdrop through summer. In fall, the foliage can shift through yellow, bronze, purple-red and deeper purple tones, giving the shrub another reason to earn its place after the berries form. The coarsely toothed leaves also add texture that helps it stand apart from smoother-leaved shrubs.

Plant where dependability matters

Blue Muffin® performs in full sun to part shade and adapts to a wide range of soils, including heavier or occasionally wet ground. It also has noted salt tolerance, making it useful near sidewalks, roads and urban plantings. Once established, it shows some drought tolerance and has no major pest or disease issues, giving gardeners a durable shrub with flowers, fall color, wildlife value and easy landscape usefulness.
