Afterglow Weigela gives gardeners a compact shrub with color, contrast and an easy fit in everyday landscapes. Growing about 3–4' tall and wide, it brings dark foliage and cream-and-pink tubular flowers to sunny beds without taking over the space.

Add Color Without Overcrowding

Afterglow’s rounded, mounded habit makes it easy to use near walkways, entries, foundation plantings and mixed borders. It has enough size to feel full and finished, but stays compact enough for smaller garden plans. Its arching stems layer naturally over low companions, edging or stone, giving the planting a softer, more established look.

Keep the Border Interesting After Bloom

The dark green to purplish-bronze foliage is a big part of its value. It creates a rich backdrop for lighter flowers and nearby green plants, so the shrub continues to earn attention even when it is not in bloom. That darker leaf color also helps the cream-and-pink flowers show clearly when they open in spring.

Bring in Hummingbirds and Pollinators

In mid-spring, Afterglow produces clusters of long, tubular blooms in soft cream and pink. The flowers sit along the stems where they are easy to see, and they offer nectar for hummingbirds, bees and other pollinators. Bloom can extend or repeat into summer, adding more seasonal value with minimal deadheading.

Enjoy Shape Without Constant Pruning

Afterglow is naturally tidy, so it does not need heavy shearing to look at home in the landscape. Plant it in full sun with average, well-drained soil for best bloom and foliage color. It tolerates a range of soil pH and some clay, making it a practical choice for gardeners who want a polished shrub with less fuss.
