There are so many fragrant plants to choose from, it can be daunting to narrow down your choices to ensure what you’ve selected will work well together. One of the easiest ways is to let the professionals do the work and get one of our pre-planned gardens. Last year I planted the Butterfly & Hummingbird Garden, and now every time I step into the garden it takes my breath away. At least one of these aromatic plants is in bloom at any given time during the summer season.
The Sorbet Peony has pink and white double blooms like I’ve never seen before. And the leaves turn a red color in the fall. The fragrance is heavenly when they start to bloom early in the season. That’s how I know that summer is finally here!
The Carpet Border Lily is just loaded with rose-colored flowers by the middle of the summer. There are so many that you can’t even tell that I’ve cut a couple bouquets-full to take into the house. Talk about an air freshener!
And it’s hard to believe that I didn’t have any Fragrant Lavender in my garden until now! I don’t know what I was waiting for. I should have planted some of this stuff years ago, and I plan on planting more in at least two more spots in my yard next year. I like to bundle cuttings in small tight bunches and place them in dry vases around the house. They hold their shape as they dry and they continue to release their scent in each room long after the first frost. If there’s one thing I love as much as flowers…it’s chocolate! And now I have some Chocolate Cosmos tucked away in a few sunny spots of the garden. One is even in a container on the front porch to greet my guests. And it seems that the butterflies like chocolate about as much as I do by the way the surround this plant while it’s in bloom (which is well into fall). And the best part is – the deer have left them alone!
