When it comes to flowering dogwood trees that provide exceptional foliage interest, even when not in bloom, look no further than this newer variety of Chinese Dogwood. In early spring the plant's leaves display a golden edge, and by mid-summer stripes and swatches of pink give the foliage a water-colored appearance. In mid to late spring, June in our garden, expect creamy-white flowers with incredible staying power and in fall, leaves turn a vivid red--the summer gold dogwood is truly a multi-season performer. When we first encountered this summer gold dogwood tree in Oregon in late summer, we counted four different colors on one leaf, and were smitten. Summer Gold is a very compact grower, reaching only 8-10' at maturity with a width of 4-6' making it the perfect focal point at an entrance or in a nearby border. Cornus kousa 'Summer Gold' PPAF
