Since this beautiful perennial blooms just as summer's flower show is ending, its richly autumnal hues make it perfect to herald the coming of fall. It will last until the first frost, but comes back stronger than ever thanks to its breeders at the University of Minnesota, who instilled a hardiness that lasts even through zone 3 winters. By its third year, its daisy-like flower heads will reach 3-4" across, its stems will grow up to 3', and the spherical spread of its fragrant foliage can reach up to 5' in width. Plant in the springtime in full sun to partial shade along borders, around entryways, or even in containers.
