I thought the collection was great - I actually thought that I lost my ostrich fern due to drought last year, but it started sending out fronds last week. I found that the Christmas fern was a little too delicate for my soil, but the others are thriving and pretty. They do come as bare roots, but start putting out fronds pretty quickly if you plant them properly.

Roots in a bag
Reviewed By:

The price for this product was great. However, I too was expecting actual ferns, not just the roots with occasional small fiddle-heads. It does make sense to ship them this way - as they are dormant during the winter, and no foliage is in danger of being damaged in transit. Some of them are starting to grow up out of the soil now, and I am sure they will be beautiful in a few weeks. But I would have liked to know ahead of time that the "ferns" I was expecting were going to be a box of bags with roots...

Springhills shipping the plant as a root is a plus!! The plant has only my soil and climate to get used to giving me a very strong and healthy plant the first growing season! Every year after gets even better! And who could beat the lifetime guarantee!
