A landscaper put a large patch of this liriope around a tree 10 years ago and it continues to do well. This sounds awful -- but we just run the lawnmower over the patch every winter to cut it back and it does great. It gets shade most of the day and sun starting mid-afternoon (zone 7b), plus it is on a hill exposed to wind, and nothing seems to bother it.
I love my Lirope AKA Monkey grass. it's a great border. When i buy it I will split it up into 4 sections to get more, it will multiply by the next season.
